Celebrating Pride and Fighting for a World Free of AIDS
Friday, June 26 2015 |
David Furnish will have the honor of serving as the Grand Marshal for the Pride Toronto Parade on June 28, 2015.
"As a Toronto native, I am very excited to go home, and lead the parade for the largest Pride celebration in North America. This is an amazing opportunity for the LGBTQ community to stand up for our rights, celebrate our achievements, and remember those who sacrificed so much in the struggle for equality", David wrote in an EJAF newsletter. In honor of Pride month, David is asking to make a helpful contribution in support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation and our life-saving work.
David continued: "Because even as we celebrate, we cannot be complacent. We must never forget that we are also marching together against a disease that threatens our lives, our families, and our communities. There are still 81 countries around the world that outlaw homosexuality. These are unjust laws that create a culture of fear and prevent people from taking HIV tests, revealing their status, or picking up their medications. Ultimately, these laws exacerbate the spread of HIV/AIDS."
"Together, we can take a stand against such discrimination. At Pride Toronto, we will be marching for a more just and compassionate world, for a world free of AIDS."
