Elton John monitored Britain's Euro 2004 quarter final soccer game via a
small radio ear piece during his formal charity bash June 24, 2004.

When Elton planned his annual White Tie and Tiara Ball at his Windsor estate, he did not know the event would clash with an important match between Britain and Portugal.

Rather than miss the game, Elton made other plans. "I just can't have a TV because the setting has been perfectly designed and planned," Elton said. "I'm going to have to walk around the event with a small ear piece on. It's just worked out like that."

Elton's charity ball, which benefits his AIDS foundation, featured performances by Bryan Adams, Mary J. Blige and the host.
