Elton apologizes at Taipei concert
Friday, September 24 2004 |
Elton John apologized for an airport scuffle with paparazzi, sang before a packed audience and left for home.
The apology was offered at a special concert at the Chungshan Stadium at Yuanshan, where more than 6,000 fans cheered the British rock star, who had exchanged abuse on arrival with the waiting press at Chiang Kai-shek International Airport.
Elton John, who sang in memory of Princess of Wales Diana, arrived from Hong Kong aboard a private plane for the sole concert in Taipei shortly after midnight. The star shouted expletives as he was mobbed by photographers and TV cameramen, who had been waiting for him for hours.
The Taipei concert, his first performance in Taiwan, went smoothly after the fans had apparently gracefully accepted. Elton and his company left for the airport immediately after the concert.
