Elton throws Diamond Jubilee Tea Party for toddler
Tuesday, June 5 2012 |
Elton John hosted a star-studded Diamond Jubilee tea party on June 4, 2012 before taking the stage at Queen Elizabeth II's Buckingham Palace super-gig.
He joined thousands of Britons who used the Queen's jubilee celebrations to launch street and garden parties. Elton wanted to ensure his 15-month-old son Zachary didn't miss out on the fun and threw an A-list get-together in London before hitting the stage to perform for Her Majesty.
He tells Britain's The One Show, "We had a tea (party) at a hotel up the road so my little boy could come to at least part of the festivities because he's too young to come to the show. But I wanted him to come to it so that when he got a little older we could say, 'Listen you were at the Diamond Jubilee, you just went to the tea. We had a lot of (guests) - (Sir) Cliff (Richard) went to the thing, Jessie J, Ed Sheeran, Annie Lennox, Kylie Minogue, David Walliams... It was a lot of people."
Elton and his guests later went on to perform at the three-hour musical extravaganza held outside Buckingham Palace for the Queen, members of the royal family and almost 20,000 fans.
