Fan Report and photo by Marcel Zuercher.
It was that Friday morning, December 8, 2005. Gaby called me from Stuttgart and told me: "We need 8 swiss fan club-t-shirts immediately - it's for the Voice of Atlanta" - and she has a personal card from Adam. They (Bruno, Peter, Marie-Josée and Gaby - all members of the Swiss fan club) have met the singers before the concert at the hotel and after the show in the hotel bar and have had some small talks - and that they liked our new shirts - pretty cool! The idea was to give the shirts to Adam McKnight in Zurich.
Zurich, December 14, 2005 - Shortly after 6 p.m., the doors have just opened, two of the singers came to the entrance and said hello to everybody. It was funny to see, that other fans didn't know who they were. Only 5 minutes later, we've had the chance to run to the first 2 rows. So we've reserved the best view places in front of his legendary piano. And again, some minutes later, all Voice of Atlanta-singers, except Adam McKnight, came to us and gave us the possibility, to say, how proud we are, to give our shirts to them. And they all shaked hands with everyone, who had that Swiss fan club-shirt on. So we've had a very funny 5-minute-session in the audience with the Voice of Atlanta.
Elton began the set with "Funeral For A Friend" and "Love Lies Bleeding". He was smiling all the time - and the band members too. So we've known that the show would be great! And so it was .. after "Bennie And The Jets" he called 'Good evening Zurich. This is the last show for this year and I hope, that it will gonna be one to remember - for you and us.' He wore a black suit with a designed mairmaid on the back. "Take Me To The Pilot" became an incredible uptempo-boogie-3-minutes-intro - absolutely genious! Blessed was such a beautiful performance - with powerful energy from Nigel.
After "Tiny Dancer" the front row flipped out .. you ask why .. now, the Voice of Atlanta came on stage. Elton registered our enthusiasm noises - and smiled. During "Philadelphia Freedom" we've had a lot of fun with the choir.
They've looked all the time to us .. let's party! "Sad Songs (Say So Much)" and "They Call Her The Cat" became great references from the audience. Before "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" the choir members put some 'christmas-hats' on and played with them during "I'm Still Standing".
The rock-finale was as always a great pleasure to rock-out with Elton standing and laying on the piano during "The Bitch Is Back".
He congratulated to the new and better options at the Hallenstadion (it was the first time he played the up-lifted stadium) - and yes, it wasn't the last European tour, before "Your Song" he got such a smile on his face and said 'we will see you soon' - and we deserved a wonderful rendition of "Your Song".
